Its a common request, particularly for the 'brochure' or relatively static pages of a website...
I'd like to vary the fonts or background colours on a particular page.
Of course, in Joomla a page means a menu item and the 'pages' in question are generally single article pages so I'll consider this as an enhancement to the available Joomla 1.5 behaviour with respect to the Article Layout menu item.

Banner images and single article module displays in Joomla 1.5
There are common issues with people trying to get Joomla to display nice distinctive pages or banners for particular pages.
This is actually easy to achieve but its not immediately evident that a picture is just another article from this perspective. The most common template position to display your images on a template will be the 'banner' but this aspect does depend on the particular template you are using so you will have to experiment.

This article describes my experience customising the very nice looking rockettheme metamorph template for my site. I'm not aiming to repeat the information in the tutorials that come with it but rather to detail the things I've had to do to get it to work how I want it to.
Read this as an adjunct to the existing tutorials if you get into difficulty.

Adding the comment facility to Joomla articles - mxComment
Its good to allow users to add comments and to rate the articles on a website. The mxComment utility provides effective ratings and commenting.
It is free, it works well and it installs cleanly on Joomla 1.5 (although it is currently using legacy mode).
The legacy mode proved frustrating and I was getting a lot of Spam with mxComment. I've switched to jomComment as an alternative.
I still get some Spam but its much, much less (maybe 5 per month). Its a great comment utility and the only thing I would like that it does not provide is threading (where you can reply to specific comments).

They are a good economical choice if you are creating a brochure site (a site that is presenting information about your business to casual visitors) but you will need to ensure that the marketing of your site is being handled too in order to get the visitors to actually visit your site.
